Last Saturday on Smash, “Opening Night,” Karen finally gets a dose of the real Jimmy; Bombshell opens on Broadway; Derek gets dumped; and Ivy thanks her former enemy.

Apologies for the delayed reaction! But let’s be honest; Saturday nights are lamesville for prime time, and Tuesday nights into Wednesdays are definitely missing something without Smash. So we’re here now.

Congratulations Ivy Lynn, you’ve made it. From chorus and ensemble girl to leading lady, you even managed to make Karen jealous. Who would’ve thought! Not even Marilyn Monroe herself could give that performance she gave. But of course, there had to be dribbles of self doubt from our melodramatic Broadway actress. And her hero? Derek, or was it mom?

This time it was mommy dearest. But enough about Ivy. The more irksome thing from the latest episode is Karen’s “Guess I’m not the star anymore,” woe is me act which, to put it frankly, is a complete gag-fest. Face it honey, there are other performers that just might be better than you. Can you handle that? And now that we know Karen is afraid of Jimmy–after Ana drops the bomb that the lurking blonde is actually his brother–I’m even less interested in Jimmy’s past!

When we first met Adam, he appeared as the creepy, dangerous drug dealer who Jimmy was in deep with. Yes, Jimmy may have lived with him, but that old house where he got his notebook could have easily been a drug hangout where all the not-so-cool kids crashed. Knowing that Adam is Jimmy’s brother lowers his level of dangerousness just a pinch and now that we know Jimmy can kick some serious ass, Adam drops yet another level in the danger zone. The drug dealer angle was cliché, but the brother angle is just boring.

Now at Jimmy’s life is out in the open, and Karen seems to want no part of it, there could be a rekindling of her and Derek’s nonexistent relationship. Ivy is backing off knowing that she’s the rebound after Derek got rejected, and even though Derek went home with the girl who ruined his career early this season, something tells me bringing Hit List to Broadway will respark his flame for Karen. Thank goodness for that though, we’re over the Jimmy drama.

Hopefully, so is the rest of NBC.
